The Prosserman JCC’s Fitness and Health Centre on Sherman Campus opened its doors on October 5 to a group of enthusiastic, fitness-minded folk. Featuring high-tech, interactive workout machines, the centre is an ultra-modern facility which is already proving to be a popular place to not only improve members’ health but their social networking, too. “I had coffee with a couple of the women I met on opening day; and that’s a great way to spend some time cooling down after a great workout,” said Doris Starr. “This is going to be a very popular place.” The contemporary Goldie Fitness Centre features state-of-the-art workout machines including cardiovascular equipment with entertainment systems and virtual cycling with ‘Expresso’ bikes. Also part of the Prosserman JCC Fitness and Health Centre is a member’s lounge and three group exercise studios, including a ‘spin’ studio created specifically for cycle classes. Many of the workout machines are among the most innovative in the fitness world, and are being featured in Toronto for the first time. “The dual-action cross training machine is amazing,” said enthusiastic new member Felice Blatt. “I have never seen anything like it before. It will actually cut my workout time in half because of how many different muscles it targets. It’s my new dream machine.” Tonya Faganely, General Manager of the Prosserman JCC Fitness and Health Centre, is thrilled about the variety the new gym offers. “There are between 45 to 55 different classes being offered throughout the week, including yoga, pilates, spinning, conditioning and Group Power©. There really are activities for every stage of life and every level of fitness. You tell us about your goals and we’ll create a plan that suits you.” “The staff is super-eager to please,” said member Cindy Granek. “Whenever you have a question or concern they are right there to help out in any way they can.” As with any new venture, there are always kinks that need to be worked out in the early stages. “We are now creating a ‘top ten changes list’ to support our members,” said Bryan Keshen, executive director of the Prosserman JCC. “Some will happen in days, some in weeks and some within months. We will provide those to members so that we share both the issues raised and the alternative solutions.” Membership to the Prosserman JCC’s Fitness and Health Centre is available for ages 12 and up, with special packages for seniors, full-time students and youth.
